Reading Leads
Thursday 10th March 2022
Our Reading Leads met to discuss their individual school curriculum approaches to the teaching and learning of Reading. Our leads were then able to ask questions in order to further their own individual understanding.
Each leader brought with them something that was working well that they wished to share with the group. This generated further discussion and deeper thought about Reading pedagogy.
Wednesday 3rd November
At this meeting, our Reading leaders spent some time looking at the Reading Framework and its implications for our classrooms.
We discussed many of the summary points, including the importance of modelling high quality fluency reading so that our children experience daily what this should look like. One of the recommendations from the Framework centres around adopting a 'No hands up' approach to teaching and learning. This generated a really powerful discussion of the potential impact of such an approach.
Our leaders spent some time thinking about just 'how' we teach different reading skills and what this looks like across different year groups - e.g. how does the teaching of inference in KS1 look different to KS2.
We ended our afternoon by having the opportunity to share some resources that we feel have had a positive impact on the teaching of reading in our classrooms.
