Capability and Character
CEO Thought of the Week
Hi Everyone,
Hope you’ve had a good first half of the week. The last few days I’ve been thinking about the difference between capability and character.
Capability is what you can do — the knowledge, the skill, the experience. It’s important, of course. But character is who you are when you do it — the kindness, resilience, honesty, and care that shines through in every choice you make. The truth is, capability gets noticed, but character gets remembered.
When I walk through our schools, I see capability everywhere — lessons planned brilliantly, children inspired, systems working smoothly. But what really makes Infinity special is the character of the people doing those things. The smiles that greet pupils at the gate. The patience when something doesn’t go to plan. The way colleagues’ step in for each other without hesitation. That’s what makes the difference. That’s what our children will carry with them long after they’ve forgotten how to divide fractions or label rivers on a map. They’ll remember how they were made to feel — encouraged, believed in, supported.
So yes, let’s keep growing our capability. But let’s never forget that it’s our character that truly shapes lives.
Thanks, as always, for showing both every single day! Infinity wouldn’t be Infinity without you.
Have a great week,
Gavin
