  • Pinchbeck East CE Primary Academy wins third place in Safer Internet Day competition

Pinchbeck East CE Primary Academy, which is part of Infinity Academies Trust, has secured third place in Lincolnshire County Council’s Safer Internet Day competition.

The competition encouraged primary schools across the county to create short films to address this year’s Safer Internet Day theme - fake news and disinformation.

Pinchbeck East’s E-Cadets (pupils who volunteer to promote online safety across the school) gladly took on the challenge, researching the topic, putting together a script and acting out a news piece using ‘Wisdom Warrior’ puppets to help raise awareness of online scams.

Teeny Vayro, Head of School at Pinchbeck East CE Primary Academy praised the pupils for their hard work and creativity. She said: “Our E-Cadets take their role very seriously so when the opportunity came up to put together a video about online safety they approached it with a great level of maturity. They worked hard to find out the facts and make the messages simple and understandable for other children and their families.”

As one of only a handful of schools shortlisted for an award, Pinchbeck East CE Primary’s E-Cadets and their teachers were invited to a special awards ceremony held at Terry O’Toole Theatre in Lincoln, where they found out that they had won third place in the competition.

Andrew Raistrick, Executive Headteacher at Pinchbeck East CE Primary Academy commented: “We are so pleased that our dedicated E-Cadets and the brilliant Miss Holly Biggadike who leads on this area for us, have received recognition for their work around this important topic. It is just one example of the ways that we educate our pupils on internet safety throughout the year.”

Gavin Booth, CEO of Infinity Academies Trust added: “In an ever-changing world, where technology is evolving at an incredibly rapid pace, internet safety is always a key concern for our academies. As well as dedicating sufficient time for this within the curriculum, we want to empower our pupils to become champions for staying safe online – this is a fantastic example of that. We are very proud of Pinchbeck East’s achievements.”
