St Nicholas CE Primary Academy pupils visit Downing Street for World Book Day launch

A group of pupils from St Nicholas CE Primary Academy in Boston, which is part of Infinity Academies Trust, were invited to attend the national launch of World Book Day at Number 10 Downing Street.

St Nicholas CE Primary was one of just a handful of schools invited to attend the special event to celebrate the joy of reading, creativity and books. The invitation comes on the heels of recent BBC news coverage highlighting the academy's commitment to going above and beyond for its pupils and their families.

Throughout the day, the pupils were joined by MC Grammar, a popular performer and educator, who taught them some fantastic lyrical raps from nursery rhymes and popular children’s books. They were also joined by well-known authors and illustrators, who added an extra layer of fun to the day.

In addition, there was a chance to meet Bridget Phillipson MP, the Secretary of State for Education, who spoke to the children about their school and the importance of reading for pleasure.

Fiona Booth, Headteacher at St Nicholas CE Primary Academy, said: "This has been a truly extraordinary experience for our pupils, one that they will remember for years to come.

“Opportunities like this are incredibly rare, it has been so rewarding to be able to take our children along and to see their beaming smiles. At St Nic’s we celebrate the joy of reading every day, but this has been extra-special."

As part of the memorable visit, the children were encouraged to create their own illustrations and immerse themselves in the world of storytelling. They were also given an exclusive glimpse of work behind the scenes at Downing Street, where they witnessed the bustling heart of UK politics in action.

For many of the pupils, this trip was their first opportunity to visit London, and the day culminated in a ride on the London Eye, offering stunning views of the capital.

Gavin Booth, CEO at Infinity Academies Trust, added: “Our academies work incredibly hard to provide the best opportunities for our pupils, and it is wonderful to see that dedication recognised in this way.

“Experiences like this inspire children and highlight the brilliant work happening across our Trust. It is fantastic to see our academies represented at such a national level.”
